Bodegas Tinto Pesquera belongs to the Familia Fernandez Rivera which has a total of 4 different wineries in the Ribeira del Duero.
Wine 1 : Condado de Haza
Clear medium ruby colour wine with on the nose clear pronounced aromas of black fruits. Still a young wine which needs more maturity. Still on the developing stage, on the palate, the wine has dominantly black fruits flavours, tones of pepper as well with a high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol and full-bodied dry wine. Overall average to nice balance, acidity, length and concentration of fruit flavours (0,75 – 0,5 – 0,5 – 0,75/1). Yet you can drink it now but to my opinion the wine has not really the potential for ageing.
Wine 2 : Tinto Pesquera
Lovely clear medium ruby red wine with on the nose clear pronounced aromas of black fruits and herbs such as green bell pepper and tomato leaves. Still being in a early development stage, this dry, high acidic wine presents high tannins, high alcohol percentage and is full-bodied. On the palate, we may find especially black fruits and pepper notes with medium finish. While balance, length and intensity of aromas are fine, the aromas and flavours other than black fruits are a bit difficult to identify. Thus, I miss some concentration of flavours and aromas (1-1-1-0,75/1). All by all, a nice entry level wine with a potential of ageing of 1 to 3 years.
PS : note the 2019 in front and 2018 in the back, but this is a mistake by the winery. Correct year is 2019.
Wine 3 : MI XI wine 2018
A wine name linked to the Reconquista period in Spain back in 1011 in the Middle Ages and perhaps a wink to the Reconquista of the Ribeira del Duero wines on other Spanish wines 😉
Clear medium ruby red wine with on the nose aromas of black fruits and green bell pepper. Being in the early development stage, this is a dry wine with a nice high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol percentage and full bodied. On the palate we may find primary flavours of black fruits and secondary flavours of coffee and vanilla. Balance, length, intensity and concentration (1-1-1-1/1) are all on point which makes this a nice wine to drink with an interesting quality level and potential for ageing up to 5 years at least.
Wine 4 : Contado de Haza 2018
Clear medium pale ruby wine with well pronounced aromas of black and red fruits as well as more herbal touches like tomato leaves and balsamic. While still in the development stage, this dry wine has a nice high acidity but high tannins, high alcohol and being full-bodied. On the palate we may feel black fruits as usually with wines from the Ribeira del Duero but also some coffee. Nice harmony, length, intensity and concentration (1-1-1-1/1) of flavours with a ageing potential of about 5 years or more.
Wine 5 : Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2018
Clear medium pale ruby wine with clearly pronounced aromas and flavours of black fruits, mint and coffee notes on both, the nose and on the palate. Still developing, this dry red wine has high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol and is full-bodied. A nice harmonious wine with good length, intensity and complexity (1-1-1-1/1). A good wine with at least a potential conservation of 3 to 5 years.
Wine 6 : Millenium
A clean medium pale ruby wine with clear pronounced aromas of black fruits and green bell pepper. Even being rested on 100% French oak, no clear secondary aromas nor flavours were clearly identified. Yet we may find on the palate some primary flavours of black fruit and bottle ageing tertiary flavours of tobacco. Like most wines of the Ribeira del Duero, the wine is dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol and full-bodied. Perfect wine for direct consumption or 3-5 year ageing potential with great harmony, length, intensity and flavour concentration (1-1-1-1/1).
Wine 7 : Alenza Gran Reserva 2009
This red wine bottle in 2009 has started to develop some light garnet colours and starts to have great aromas of black fruits, jam, mint, liquorice as well as secondary aromas of coffee and tertiary aromas of fig, dried fruit, tobacco and other vegetal tones. Being at the early garnet stage, it still does have ageing potential of minimum 5 years. Dry, high acidity, high tannins and alcohol as well as full-bodied, the wine especially has black fruit flavours on the palate which is in big contradiction with the aromas on the nose. Harmonious wine with long finish, great intensity and aromas concentration (1-1-1-1/1), a nice wine to drink now or for keep safe a few more years.
